“…In the present study, administration of a higher dose of sorbitol(2 g/kg) did not alter plasma glucose or plasma insulin levels. In normal man, ingestion of sorbitol(O.5-0.75 g/kg) was also without effect on plasma glucose (Forster, 1972;Macdonald et al 1978) but caused a slight increase in plasma insulin levels in the only study where this factor was measured (Macdonald et al 1978). Taken together, these results show that, in the rat and in man, glucose homeostasis is perfectly maintained after large gastric loads of sorbitol.…”
