Velvetbean Caterpillar (VBC) Control in Soybean, 1989

Abstract

The experiment was located in Gadsden County, Fla., and planted 23 May. Plot size was 8 rows × 15 m with a 0.91-m row spacing. Experimental design was a randomized complete block, with 4 replications. All treatments were applied on 22 Aug, except for a treatment of the VBC nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AgNPV) which was applied on 17 Aug. All applications were made with a 2-row, CO2-powered backpack sprayer that was equipped with 3, D3 nozzles/row. Each treatment was applied at about 36 psi, with the amount of spray about 25 gal/acre. Efficacy data were made by taking 25 sweeps/plot with a 0.38-m-diam sweepnet on each of 5 dates. The 2 center rows of each plot were not sampled, and yield estimates were made by harvesting 10 m of these rows on 11 Nov.
