Vegetative Development of Radish Seedlings in Different Organic Substrates

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the vegetative development of radish seedlings in different organic substrates with seeds from two types of commercial packing. The completely randomized design was used in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme, consisting of four substrates (commercial, tanned bovine manure, mixed organic compound and vermicompost) and two seed packings (aluminized envelope and can), with eight replications, totalizing 64 seedlings. The biometric evaluations of the seedlings were carried out on t… Show more

“…The production of seedlings, in addition to the ambience, requires substrates that guarantee the mechanical maintenance of the root system and ensure the optimal supply of water, nutrients, oxygen and the transport of CO2 between the roots and the external environment (CAMPANHARO et al, 2006;Pelizza et al, 2013;JAEGGI et al, 2019). The commercial substrates OrganoAmazon® and PuroHumus have been widely used in the production of vegetable seedlings and studied in research (MONTEIRO NETO et al, 2016;MONTEIRO NETO et al, 2018).…”

“…1 Natural amendments (organic natural material) are added to soil or growing media to enhance the fertility and/or the structure of soil, thereby helping plant growth and development. [2][3][4][5] Various natural amendments application was shown to differentially alter the physiochemical properties of growing media and provided higher nutrients that consequently improved the yield index of different crops. [6][7][8] Previous studies corroborated that adding vermicast into growing media promote aeration, porosity, capacity of holding water, and support microbial activity and antipathogenic response.…”
