Vegetables and Their Bioactive Compounds as Anti-Aging Drugs

Abstract: Aging is a continuous process over time that is mainly related to natural alterations in mechanical–biological processes. This phenomenon is due to several factors, including the time and energy of biological processes. Aging can be attributed to biological factors such as oxidative stress, cell longevity, and stem cell senescence. Currently, aging is associated with several diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and other diseases related to oxidative stress. In addition, certain natural molecu… Show more

“…The distinctive architectures of PDNVs reveal their promise in the delivery of antiaging‐related medications, allowing them to inherit the inherent bioactive capabilities of the parent plants (Fang and Liu 2022, Mechchate et al 2022). PDNVs' lipid bilayer structure provides for loading hydrophobic anti‐aging medications, increasing drug bioavailability and allowing for the effective loading of hydrophilic pharmaceuticals, decreasing drug leakage, and reducing drug‐related adverse effects.…”

“…For example, activating autophagy through 3,4-dimethoxychalcone stimulates transcription factors E3 and EB [279]. On the other hand, vegetables and seaweeds as a resource for extracting bioactive molecules to be used as anti-senescence agents have also been reviewed [280,281]. Curcumin is also reported to have an anti-aging role in the treatment of aging-related diseases, cancer, and arthritis [282].…”

“…Cellular senescence is closely related to oxidative stress, cell longevity, and stem cell senescence. 7 Cancer is a disease of aging characterized by the incremental accumulation of somatic mutations. 6 Recent therapies targeting aging-related diseases revealed a positive antitumor effect by preventing a senescence-associated secretory phenotype.…”
