Vasorelaxant Effects Induced by Red Wine and Pomace Extracts of Magliocco Dolce cv.

Abstract: Several epidemiological studies demonstrate that moderate (red) wine consumption may afford protection against cardiovascular diseases. Protection is ascribed to the biological activity of wine components, many of which, however, are discarded during winemaking. In vitro rat thoracic aorta rings contracted with phenylephrine or KCl were used to assess the vasorelaxant activity of extracts from wine pomaces (seeds and skins) of the Calabrian autochthonous grape variety Magliocco dolce (Arvino). NMR spectroscopy… Show more

“…In this sense, hydroxytyrosol from olive oil improved acetylcholine-induced vasorelaxation under oxidative stress conditions [ 47 ]. The skin and seeds of grape ( Vitis vinifera ), with high levels of polyphenols (e.g., catechin and glycosylated flavonoids), contain vasorelaxant agents capable of relaxing in vitro vascular preparations in an endothelium-dependent manner [ 48 ]. Several reports have demonstrated the beneficial activity and preventive effects of catechins in the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), by regulating lipid metabolism, vascular endothelial protection, and reducing blood pressure [ 49 , 50 ].…”

“…For this reason, kefir enriched with plants extracts was proved to inhibit carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes, being useful in the prevention of inflammation and chronic diseases. In addition, plant derived compounds were able to induce an intense vasorelaxation via different mechanisms [22,23]. In this context, Kwon et al [24] evaluated the α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and ACE inhibitory activity of kefir enriched with Rhodiola extract (2%).…”

“…MCM-41 nanocarrier was fabricated by the co-condensation method using n-cetyl-n,n,n-trimethyl ammonium bromide as a template. In this view, different amounts of red propolis were embedded in silica mesoporous nanoparticles and tested against S. aureus at concentrations of 1050, 750, 500, 375, 225, and 150 µg/mL, finding an inhibition zone of approximately 19,20,21,17,16, and 17 mm in diameter, respectively. Poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide)/ poly(vinyl alcohol)…”

“…The search for new therapeutically active compounds has spurred researchers over the years to investigate natural compounds [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. In particular, food and plant wastes represent interesting sources of biologically active molecules [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ] and have been proposed as indigenous remedies [ 25 , 26 ]. Specifically, secondary metabolites from plants represent valuable bioactive ingredients [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ] with remarkable antibacterial properties [ 31 , 32 ], useful in the treatment of several diseases.…”
