Vasitis Nodosa: A Rare Diagnosis for Inguinal Swelling

Abstract: Vasitis nodosa involves benign, reactive spindle-shaped nodular thickening of the ductal epithelium of vas deferens. We report the case of a 21-year-old male with a history of bilateral undescended testes and left orchidopexy. The patient presented with the complaint of a non-tender left inguinal swelling. The definitive diagnosis of vasitis nodosa was made based on clinical evaluation and imaging findings. We suggest that this rare entity should be considered as a differential diagnosis of inguinal swelling d… Show more

“…The chronic condition, also known as vasitis nodosa, was first described in 1943 by Benjamin [ 1 ]. The histopathological examination may reveal a narrow vasal wall, thickened muscular coat, and evidence of inflammation over the surrounding tissue, such as fibrosis and lymphocyte infiltration [ 2 ]. Vasitis is a benign disease that can be either asymptomatic or present as a protruding mass with focal tenderness over the inguinal area.…”

“…[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Chronic vasitis may cause luminal occlusion, increased intraluminal pressures, and leakage of spermatozoa. 6 All these may result in sperm granuloma formation and fibrosis. 6 Most cases of CV have a previous history of vasectomy or surgeries in close proximity of the VD, such as herniorrhaphy, perianal fistulectomy, or, as in the present case, prostatectomy.…”

“…Acute vasitis is a rare condition, but one that can be a diagnostic dilemma, and if not recognized and managed appropriately, may lead to unnecessary surgical interventions with consequent morbidity for the patient. 2 We reviewed the cases in Literature and we identified 91 well-documented cases before our case have been reported so far since the first case in 1943 1 …”
