Introduction: Physiotherapists may play an important part in raising the awareness of patients and society as regards type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the prevention of concomitant diseases. The objective of the paper is to assess the level of T1D education among physiotherapists versus selected factors. Material and methods: The diagnostic poll used an original questionnaire with personal questions and a test (17 single-select questions). The respondents included 103 physiotherapists from Poland, aged between 20 and 50, with 64.1% women and 35.9% men. Results: When asked about the sources of T1D education, 72 respondents (36.5%) selected websites, 71 (36%) medical literature, 36 (18.3%) university classes and 18 (9.1%) a physician. As far as the test results for the total knowledge of T1D was concerned, the knowledge level was medium for the majority (69 (67%)) of the respondents, high for 28 respondents (27.2%) and low for six respondents (5,8%). A statistically significant correlation was observed between the years of working as a physiotherapist, and the level of T1D knowledge (r = 0.196, p = 0.047). The respondents that had been on the job longer had more answers that were correct. The level of knowledge was not correlated with age (r = 0.113, p = 0.258) or sex (r = 0.142, p = 0.344) or the subjective self-assessment of knowledge of the respondents (r = -0.04, p = 0.685). Conclusions:The majority of the respondents had a moderate level of diabetes education. The level of the T1D knowledge of physiotherapists was primarily determined by their number of years on the job. Age and sex of the respondents had no impact on the level of their knowledge of diabetes (T1D).

Introdução: A Doença de Parkinson (DP) apresenta uma característica assimétrica em sua maior parte, além disso um distúrbio do controle postural também pode ser evidenciado. Com isso, análises na distribuição de massa e pressão plantar se apresentam importantes, e como ferramenta para essas avaliações temos a plataforma de baropodometria como um recurso de análise quantitativa. Objetivo: Analisar a pressão plantar e distribuição de massa de indivíduos com DP, de forma estática utilizando uma plataforma de baropodometria eletrônica. Métodos: Foram incluídos no estudo 18 voluntários, 10 deles com diagnóstico médico de DP, grupo experimental (DP), e 8 indivíduos sem diagnóstico de DP, grupo controle (GC). Inicialmente foram questionados sobre informações sociodemográficas e posteriormente submetidos a uma avaliação das variáveis antropométricas (altura e peso) e da pressão plantar na plataforma de baropodometria eletrônica FootWalk Pro. Resultados: Os indivíduos com DP apresentaram pressão máxima maior do lado esquerdo (p = 0,017*) e uma porcentagem de massa maior do lado direito (p = 0,026*). Na distribuição de massas houve uma diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos (DP > lado esquerdo; GC > lado direito; p = 0,042*). Conclusão: Essa população apresenta, quando submetidos a avaliação na plataforma eletrônica de pressão, alterações na distribuição da pressão plantar e divisão de massas.

Background. Excessive plantar pressure leads to increased risk of diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) have been considered to be associated with alterations in gait and plantar pressure in diabetic patients. However, few studies have differentiated the effects with each of them. Objective. To investigate the plantar pressure distribution in diabetic patients, with DPN and PAD as independent or combined factors. Methods. 112 subjects were recruited: 24 diabetic patients with both DPN and PAD (DPN-PAD group), 12 diabetic patients with DPN without PAD (DPN group), 10 diabetic patients with PAD without DPN (PAD group), 23 diabetic patients without DPN or PAD, and 43 nondiabetic healthy controls (HC group). The in-shoe plantar pressure during natural walking was measured. Differences in peak pressure, contact area, proportion of high pressure area (%HP), and anterior/posterior position of centre of pressure (COP) were analysed. Results. Compared with HC group, in DPN-PAD group and DPN group, the peak pressures in all three forefoot regions increased significantly; in PAD group, the peak pressure in lateral forefoot increased significantly. The contact area of midfoot in the DPN-PAD group decreased significantly. PAD group had larger HP% of lateral forefoot, DPN group had larger HP% of inner forefoot, and DPN-PAD group had larger HP% of total plantar area. There was a significant tendency of the anterior displacement of COP in the DPN-PAD group and DPN group. No significant differences were observed between the D group and HC group. Conclusion. DPN or PAD could affect the plantar pressure distribution in diabetic patients independently or synergistically, resulting in increased forefoot pressure and the area at risk of ulcers. DPN has a more pronounced effect on peak pressure than PAD. The synergistic effect of them could significantly reduce the plantar contact area of midfoot.
