Vascular physiology: A bridge between health and disease

Abstract: A functional aspect of the vascular system is defined as vascular physiology, which covers mostly cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, renovascular and pulmonary vascular systems. Most of the system functions with perfect homeostasis under the coverage of haemodynamics. This haemodynamics maintains a steady relationship between intravascular pressure (P), overall vascular resistance (R) and circulatory flow (F). To explore more unknown facts of vascular physiology further research in experimental physiology with s… Show more

“…Oxidative stress parameters in the case of stage II and stage I hypertensive patients were found to be remarkably altered in our findings. Increased MDA in both stage I and stage II HTN indicate altered vascular pathophysiology [ 7 ]. Excessive MDA in stage II and stage I HTN in our study may be due to the generation of more ROS, which is a key factor of HTN pathology by modulating the vasomotor system and developing vasoconstriction through angiotensin II.…”

“…Furthermore, oxidative stress induces endothelial cell apoptosis and senescence, impairing endothelial repair mechanisms and exacerbating vascular injury. Moreover, ROS-mediated oxidative modification of lipids, proteins, and DNA contributes to endothelial dysfunction by disrupting cellular signalling pathways and promoting a pro-inflammatory and pro-thrombotic vascular milieu [ 7 ].…”

“…The results indicate impairment of vascular integrity compared to controls. Increased PWV also indicates stiffness of conduit arteries, which is a risk factor for CVD [ 13 ].…”

“…The circulatory system, also referred to as the cardiovascular system, plays a vital role in maintaining physiological functions in all tissues. It is involved in distributing oxygen and nutrients to living cells, regulating body temperature, and eliminating biological waste products from the organism [ 1 ]. Disruption of circulation, which often accompanies various cardiovascular disorders, leads to reduced oxygen delivery, resulting in hypoxia and tissue dysfunction [ 2 ].…”
