Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) polymorphism rs3025039 and atherosclerosis among older with hypertension

Abstract: Angiogenesis inhibition therapy causes hypertension by increasing peripheral vascular resistance. Vasa vasorum angiogenesis plays a crucial role in the development of atherosclerosis. Since vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which contributes to the progress of angiogenesis, is reported to be inversely associated with the minor allele of polymorphism rs3025039, the minor allele of rs3025039 could be inversely associated with atherosclerosis among individuals with hypertension. A cross-sectional study o… Show more

“…Serum concentration of VEGF was reported to be inversely associated with the (T) allele of the VEGF polymorphism rs3025039 and positively associated with the (T) allele of the VEGF polymorphism rs3025020 [ 14 ]. Moreover, rs3025020 is inversely associated with hypertension [ 19 ] and rs3025039 is inversely associated with structural atherosclerosis as evaluated by CIMT among older individuals with hypertension [ 15 ].…”

“…HTLV-1 infected cells might not have increased levels of VEGF in individuals in the early stages of HTLV-1 infection. Serum VEGF concentration is reported to be inversely associated with the (T) allele of the VEGF polymorphism rs3025039 [ 14 ], which is inversely associated with structural atherosclerosis among older individuals with hypertension [ 15 ]. Because serum VEGF concentration has been reported to be positively associated with the (T) allele of the VEGF polymorphism rs3025020 [ 14 ], VEGF polymorphism rs3025020 could act as a confounder of the association between VEGF polymorphism rs3025039 and HTLV-1.…”

“…The results of the literature research revealed that the VEGF rs1570360 and rs3025039 SNPs ( 107 - 111 ), ESR1 (or ER-alpha ) rs9340799 ( 112 , 113 ), IL-6 rs1800796 ( 114 , 115 ), IL-10 rs1800871 ( 116 - 118 ), IL-16 rs11556213 ( 9 , 16 , 119 ), 5,10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase ( MTHFR ) rs1801133 (Ala222Val) ( 120 , 121 ), C-C motif chemokine ligand 21 ( CCL21 ) rs2812378 ( 122 , 123 ), rs507666 at ABO /9q34.2 ( 124 , 125 ) and tumor protein p53 ( TP53 ) rs1042522 ( 126 , 127 ) are associated with both diseases under investigation ( Table I ).…”
