Vascular embolization

Abstract

Vascular embolization has been shown to be of great value in a variety of clinical situations, and in many of these it should be the procedure of first choice, either prior to, o r as a n alternative to, more conventional surgical o r medical therapy. Clinicians should b e a w a r e of the numerous indicationsfor this technique and the often excellent results that a r e obtained. This article describes the techniques used for vascular occlusion, defines many of its indications and reviews s o m e of the results and complications that have been reported with ernbolization procedures.
