Various Obturation Methods Used in Deciduous Teeth

Abstract: Pulpectomy is one of the treatment options used to maintain primary teeth with radicular pulpal tissue inflammation or that have become nonvital, until normal exfoliation. The primary goal of this procedure is to maintain arch length and function by preserving primary teeth that are essential to proper guidance of the permanent dentition. Other objectives of preserving primary teeth are to enhance esthetics and mastication, prevent aberrant tongue habits, aid in speech, and prevent the psychological effects as… Show more

“…Although zinc oxide and eugenol, calcium hydroxide, and iodoform‐based pastes are currently recommended, there is still no consensus on the gold standard material for this purpose . Considering obturation techniques, endodontic pressure or insulin‐type syringes, the NaviTip system, motor‐ or hand‐driven lentulo spirals, and endodontic pluggers/reamers are currently indicated . Due to the particularities of the root canal system in primary teeth, it however, is still challenging to provide complete a fluid‐tight sealing in these elements.…”

“…Handheld lentulospiral is designed with consistently spaced spirals which evenly distribute the material throughout the root canal. The design and flexibility of the lentulospiral allows the paste to be carried throughout the narrow, curved canals in primary molars[ 7 20 ] and provides better control as it is held by hand. [ 21 ] Though lentulospiral is a widely accepted successful technique for delivery, even experienced operators need to reinsert material to ensure better filling quality.…”

“…The screw mechanism of mechanical syringe would be able to generate much more pressure than a plunger system. (11,15) With 30 gauge needle, cement is loaded into the syringe as per the manufactures recommendation and expressed into the canal. (17)…”
