Varied Layer Topologies in Luminescent Zinc Coordination Polymers with Flexible Aromatic ortho‐Dicarboxylate and Dipyridyl Ligands

Abstract: Abstract. Hydrothermal synthesis has afforded four divalent zinc flexible-arm aromatic ortho-dicarboxylate coordination polymers containing dipyridyl coligands. According to X-ray crystallography, all four show layered coordination polymer structures. Nevertheless there is significant ligand influence on the nature of zinc atom aggregation and overall topology. In both {[Zn 2 (hmph) 2 (dpa) 2 ]·2H 2 O} n (1) (hmph = homophthalate, dpa = 4,4Ј-dipyridylamine), and {[Zn 2 (hmph) 2 (dpe) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 ·H 2 dpe·4H … Show more

“…The FT-IR spectrum of dehydrated 1 exhibits a strong broad peak at about 3000–3500 cm −1 , corresponding to the vibration of N–H of dpyam. 52,53 Compared with the FT-IR spectrum of 1, the peak at 428 cm −1 is assigned to ν (Cu–O water ) and it disappears after the dehydration process (Fig. S6 † ).…”

“…(Cao et al, 2008;Nakamoto, 1986;Zhang et al, 2015). The presence of the carboxylate groups is indicated by the prominent absorption bands observed at 1380-1600 cm À 1 , which correspond to the asymmetric and symmetric stretching vibrations (Murray et al, 2013;Patra et al, 2012). Furthermore, the observation of absorption bands ranging from 1690 to 1730 cm À 1 originating from the carboxyl group of the ligand provides evidence for the partial deprotonation of H 3 TMA into HTMA 2À (Li et al, 2017;Mu et al, 2011).…”

“…1) are similar to the values reported previously. [22,23] As building blocks, these cycles are further alternatingly assembled into a highly ordered 2D honeycomb coordination grid (Figure 2). Adjacent 2D layers are further linked by bpp ligands as molecular pillars to give rise to the formation of the final 3D framework with one channel along the c axis (Figure 3).…”
