Variations of the Origin of the Ophthalmic Artery (OphA)

Abstract

This chapter includes (1) Ophthalmic artery arising from the cavernous internal carotid artery (Persistent dorsal ophthalmic artery), (2) Double ophthalmic arteries arising from the internal carotid artery, (3) Ophthalmic artery arising from the middle meningeal artery, (4) Double ophthalmic arteries arising from the internal carotid artery and middle meningeal artery, and (5) Ophthalmic artery arising from the anterior cerebral artery. There are 7 figures and 1 illustration.Ophthalmic artery arising from the middle meningeal artery is not uncommon and is particularly dangerous during catheter intervention in the external carotid artery territory.
