Variations of the Ionospheric Conductivity with Different Solar and Geomagnetic Conditions

Abstract: The ionospheric conductivity is influenced by solar and geomagnetic conditions and has some changes. We calculated the conductivity and the collision frequency between the electrons and ions through models NRLMSISE-00 (Neutral Atmosphere Empirical Model-2000) and IRI2001 (International Reference Ionosphere-2001). We discussed the seasonal change of the conductivities at 120km and 300km and their change under different solar and geomagnetic conditions. The result shows that (1) the conductivity distribution is… Show more

“…During quiet times, the day-low and night-high electron fluxes are opposite to the day-night difference of plasma density in the SAA region. The density of cold ambient electrons (~eV) in the daytime is higher by one order of magnitude than the nighttime in the SAA region (Li et al, 2011). Therefore, energetic…”

“…Thus, energetic particles experience collisions with ambient cold plasmas and neutral compositions (Li et al, 2015;Selesnick, 2012). Satellite observations indicate that the density of cold plasmas in the nighttime is much less than the daytime in the SAA region (Horvath & Lovell, 2009;Li et al, 2011). However, no one knows whether the radiation environments of energetic particles have a remarkable day-night difference in SAA region.…”

“…However, the discrepancy of △ Zs variations among Yunnan stations is not only related to the solar activity but also related to the other factor, may be the complicated electrical structures underground in ionosphere are closely related to solar, and they mainly control the intensity and structure distribution of Sq current system (Pedatella et al, 2011). Also, the ionospheric conductivity makes notable change with solar activity, and increases significantly in the high solar activity year (Ji et al, 2006). So the ionosphere conductivity has a high correlation with the solar activity.…”
