Variations in productivity and wood properties of Amazonian tachi-branco trees planted at different spacings for bioenergy purposes

Abstract: spacings (6.0 m 2 and 7.5 m 2 ). Genetic variability of the T. vulgaris seed stand and/or high heritability of wood traits overcame the effect of different spacing on all morphological, physical, chemical and energetic properties of T. vulgaris wood. This species has moderate basic density when cultivated at spacings larger than 6 m 2 and net heating value above 7.95 MJ/kg, which is suitable for bioenergy purposes. The high variation in wood properties within tree spacing is strongly indicative of great potent… Show more

“…A signi cant effect of planting spacing (4.5, 6.0, 7.5, 9.0, 10.5, and 12.0 m 2 ) on wood density basic (0.443 to 0.529 g cm − 3 ) was reported in the literature [12]. T. vulgaris wood shows energetic quality characteristics like those of the Eucalyptus wood [7], corroborating its potential for domestic and industrial charcoal production in the Amazonia states. However, studies have shown that T. vulgaris trees in homogeneous plantations often fork, i.e., trees with two or more stems, related to environmental and genetic factors [13].…”

“…And regarding the physical properties of this method, there are studies mainly in Indonesia using small blocks of wood extracted with core borer, where the radial variation of the basic density (pith-bark) and even mechanical properties such as resistance was determined to compression parallel to grain in the same variation, using the Faractometer II equipment (ISHIGURI et al, 2012;MAKINO, et al, 2011;MATSUMOTO, et al, 2011). The information on the technological characterization of the woods of the genus Tachigali is still insipient, for this reason, the information was extracted from the Global wood density database with 13 species of Tachigali (ZANNE et al, 2009), Silva et al (2019) with 01 species (T. vulgaris) and the 03 Tachigali species studied; where the average basic density of the 17 species of the genus Tachigali is 0.57g/cm 3 and varies from 0.41 to 0.77 g/cm 3 , qualitatively classifying these species as a medium to very high basic density (supplementary document).…”
