Variation in selenium tolerance among two onion cultivars in closed fortification system

Abstract: Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for humans and animals. To consumption of selenium could be good sources the vegetables. Many of them are able to convert the inorganic selenium forms to organic forms, which are more effective for health. To enrich onion with selenium is known however some unclear points are remained. A closed fortification system was conducted to compare the difference of selenium tolerance in two onion cultivars in greenhouse environment. This system was well controlled, eliminati… Show more

“…Four doses were applied: 0, 5, 10 and 15 kg ha -1 of Se, with a random plot design and three replicates. The tested Se doses were similar to those reported in other studies about the Allium gender (Sharma et al, 2007;Domokos-Szabolcsy et al, 2011;Lavu et al, 2012). Three samplings were performed: at the beginning (September 2014:103-BBCH), mid-term (October 2014; 203-BBCH scale) and end (December 2014; 409-BBCH scale) of the growth cycle (Lopez-Bellido et al, 2016).…”

“…(Foliar or soil or in vitro application). As so far as we know, few articles published on onion biofortified with different nutrient such as Se [50,1], and Zn [52], but there is no published article on biofortifying onion with Se under nutrient deficiency stress. I In the current study, different sources of Se-fertilizers were applied for biofortification of onion under sandy soil conditions.…”
