“…The Kos-Nisyros volcanic center presents every possible signs of high magmatic unrest (earthquake swarms, hot and abundant passive degassing, active hydrothermal system; [18,22,113,115,116]). As the youngest eruption of the system (Yali rhyolite, [25]) is chemically very similar to the KPT (after a period of more mafic magmatism during the construction of the Nisyros cone), I would argue that the location should be closely monitored for future caldera-forming eruption of silicic magma.…”

“…(3) Magmas in the Kos-Nisyros volcanic centers show evidence for open-system gas fluxing through magma chambers (e.g., [54]). The continuous monitoring of the 3 He/ 4 He ratios in fumaroles of Nisyros volcano [113] showed a clear increase in 3 He/ 4 He (from 5.5 to 6.2) a couple of years after a earthquake swarm. The 3 He/ 4 He data requires a "mafic wind" reaching the surface after having crossed the shallow magmatic column.…”

“…At the same time water and gas isotopic studies (Shimizu et al, 2005;D`Alessandro et al, 2014;Dotsika, 2015) suggests that the hot springs of Edipsos are fed by deep parent geothermal fluid mixed with seawater. Possibly related with the volcanic center of Lichades and the magma chamber, which it has recently detected at 8 km depth (Karastathis et al, 2011).…”

“…Aristotle at his study with tile Meteorology (II,8.3) attempts to explain how hot springs of Edipsos works. Northern Euboea's hot springs and their depositions were studied by many researches in the past (Gkioni, 1998;Shimizu et al, 2005;Xatzis et al, 2008;Kanellopoulos, 2006Kanellopoulos, , 2011Kanellopoulos, , 2013aKanellopoulos, , 2013bD`Alessandro et al, 2014;Dotsika, 2015).…”

“…In the Lakki area, different hydrothermal eruptions took place recently until the historical times (Marini et al, 1993). Also, changes in the composition of the fumaroles recorded recently (1995)(1996)(1997)(1998) and they were associated with episodes of intense seismicity and ground deformation (Chiodini et al, 2002;Caliro et al, 2005;Shimizu et al, 2005), during a volcanic unrest period.…”
