Variation in Mountain Vegetation Composition between the East and the West Sides of Southern Taiwan

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, we classified twenty associations, 179 families, 810 genera, 1897 species, and identified 291 rare species. The vegetation units were named following floristic-sociological approach. A cocktail determination key was used to classify the following vegetation units of association. More of the west side than the east side of the study area was at a higher altitude, and the vegetation experienced significant compression. Follow the result of detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), winter r… Show more

“…Furthermore, Lithocarpus pallidus, Ficus fistulosa, Phobea grandis, Castanopsis cuspidata, and Trema amboinensis, were reported by Cahyanto et al (2018). Floristic compositions are thought to be related to habitat conditions, soil conditions, topography, distance between locations, altitude, and the number of samples and the sampling techniques used (Coomes and Allen 2007;Baraloto et al 2013;Rozak and Gunawan 2015;Chian et al 2016;Salvana et al 2019).…”

“…Therefore, many community types, with Qg as an indicator species, formed in the Anning River Basin. The community distribution range is large, but the species diversity and the community stability are low [19,33], resulting in a fragile ecosystem structure that is vulnerable to natural disasters such as debris flows. When conducting artificial restorations of vegetation in burned areas, it is necessary to consider soil and water conservation and vegetation diversity in order to accelerate this process [11].…”

“…Two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN), detrended correspondence analysis (DCA), and detrended canonical correspondence analysis (DCCA) are the main methods used in quantitative vegetation classification and ordination. These methods can objectively and quantitatively reveal the distribution pattern of vegetation communities and their relationships with environmental factors [18][19][20][21].…”

“…However, the importance of proper soil handling techniques in mining areas is often overlooked during rehabilitation (Mhlongo & Amponsah-Dacosta, 2015;van Rensburg & Maboeta, 2004). Thirdly, ambient environmental conditions and restoration targets influence rehabilitation success (Laughlin, 2014;Nyenda, 2020;Waldén et al, 2017), partly because site-specific climate shapes the plant community assemblages (Chian et al, 2016;Reed et al, 2009). and the legislative environmental compliance needs and requirements of surrounding communities (see Ntloko, 2020).…”
