Variation in maize chlorophyll biosynthesis alters plant architecture

Abstract: Chlorophyll is a tetrapyrrole metabolite essential for photosynthesis in plants. The oil yellow1 (oy1) gene of maize encodes subunit I of Magnesium chelatase, the enzyme catalyzing the first committed step of chlorophyll biosynthesis.
