In the tropical forest‐savannah mosaic of Lamto Reserve in Ivory Coast ants play an important role in the biodiversity conservation. This work aimed to explore the structure and composition of the arboreal ant assemblages in a forest‐savannah mosaic located in central Côte d'Ivoire. Ants were collected by baited trap (Protein bait: tuna and sugar bait: sweet milk) and beating of low vegetation. During the entire sampling campaign, 59 ant species belonging to 18 genera and five subfamilies (Formicinae, Ponerinae, Myrmicinae, Dolichoderinae and Pseudomyrmecinae) were recorded. The mean ant species richness of shrub savannah (SS) was significantly lower than of both forest island (FI) and forest gallery. Likewise, a significant difference was observed for species composition when comparing the arboreal ant communities of SS, gallery forest and FI.

Soil arthropods represent a wide range of ecological functions, and information on their abundance and diversity can be used as an indicator of the health and fertility of an ecosystem. Land use development, techniques, frequency, and management intensity can affect the arthropod soil population. The purpose of this study was to investigate how arthropods respond to soils managed in (NM) in various ways, such as intensive management land (IM), medium land management (MM), and land without management (NM). Field data was collected on the three areas for three months using an observation plot of 20x20 m2, followed by soil and litter samples taken using the monolith method from five points measuring (50x50x5) cm3 in each observation plot. Pitfall traps and the Berlese-Tullgrenn method were used to collect the soil arthropods from the sample monolith of each plot. As a result, seven dominant taxa of soil arthropods were identified: Collembola, Formicidae, Acari, Araneae, Coleoptera, Gryllidae, and Termitidae. This study found a significant difference in arthropod soil abundance based on land type, with NM, MM, and IM having the highest abundance, respectively. Individual abundance, however, was not followed by arthropod soil richness. With a diversity index of 3.61, MM has the highest species richness, followed by IM (3.03) and NM (0.39). Morphospeciesdiversity differences within each taxon follow land type differences. This study shows that different environmental conditions occur due to differences in land management, which can impact the population, abundance, and diversity of soil arthropods. Furthermore, the frequency and intensity of land management should be evaluated to ensure that people do not have a negative impact on the presence of beneficial soil arthropods.

Land use change has caused the loss of agricultural biodiversity. As major natural enemies of pests in agroecosystems, spiders have important ecological functions in improving agricultural productivity and thus deserve attention. However, few studies have considered their responses to land use changes. Here, we investigated the structure and diversity of the spider community in four land use types, that is, fallow land, woodland, orchard, and cropland in Pengzhou City, China. The differences in species richness, total abundance, community composition, and spider abundances with three foraging strategies and their correlations with environmental factors and agricultural intensity were compared between land use types. The results showed that the total abundance of spiders in fallow land was 71%, 157%, and 214% higher than that in orchard, cropland, and woodland, respectively. Similarly, fallow land maintained the highest species richness. Shannon–Wiener index, community structure heterogeneity, and number of spider species sampled in a single land use type were highest in woodland. Further, spiders with different foraging strategies showed distinctive responses to environmental factors and agricultural practices. The diversity of hunters was negatively correlated with the intensity of agricultural practices and canopy density, while web‐builders were positively correlated with canopy density. The diversity of burrowers was positively correlated with the vertical complexity of vegetation structure. Our study emphasizes the vital role of semi‐natural habitats, like fallow land and woodland, in maintaining spider diversity, and suggests optimizing land uses to provide wide‐open spaces and mitigate the effects of intensified agricultural activities for natural enemies of pests in agriculture.
