Abstract: These findings suggest that the utilization of different assays to detect ASA may detect sera that are positive for ASA with more reliability than single assay testing.

“…ASA in serum are occurring in up to 30% of infertile men (Peters & Coulam, 1992;Heidenreich et al, 1994;Naz & Menge, 1994) and up to 70% of vasectomized men (Liskin et al, 1983). Several laboratory tests for ASA are available, and the correlation of the results both with different tests and the fertility prognosis has been evaluated in various ways (Meinertz & Hjort, 1986;Dondero et al, 1991Dondero et al, , 1997Collins et al, 1993;Andreou et al, 1995;Peters et al, 1995). “…Of 20 trials examining the effect of ASA on fertilization, 14 showed a decrease in the fertilization rate, four showed no effect, and two showed equivocal effects [15]. The differences noticed may result from the ASA isotypes present or the pretreatment of the patient’s sperm samples [16]. In addition, the available tests detect antibody binding to various cellular locations on sperm.…”
