Show more

“…The Sinú River is part of one of the main ecosystems of the Colombian Caribbean coast. Along its course, the river has a complex connections with streams, marshes, and swamps that regulate its level during maximum flood periods (CVS 2009, Montoya and Aguirre 2009, Pérez-Vásquez et al 2015. We recorded M. tuberculata at 4 localities of the basin: Caño de San Vicente, Los Corrales, Momil, and Purísima (Fig.…”

“…Population density of the plants under natural conditions was determined at the three sampling points (P1, P2, and P3) using 1 m 2 quadrants placed every 2 m along the shoreline. The number of individuals per square meter was counted during two different climatic periods, one during the rainy season and the other during the dry season, following the methodology described in [6].…”

“…Each plant used in constructed wetlands has different structural and physiological adaptations to survive in different environmental conditions. Specifically, aquatic plants have been used for treating wastewater or as bioindicators of water quality [6].…”

“…Periodic fluctuations in the water level allow the establishment of plant communities with changes in the dominance of certain species (Delatorre et al, 2019). During the dry period, when the water level decreases, some species establish taking advantage of the supply of nutrients from the decomposition of other plants (Pérez-Vásquez et al, 2015). Functional diversity also varies according to the flood cycle, due to macrophytes with life forms predominant defining the community characteristics (Catian et al, 2018).…”
