Variable sampling plans for normal distribution indexed by Taguchi's loss function

Abstract: Taguchi has presented an approach to quality improvement in which reduction of deviation from the target value is the guiding principle. In this approach any measured value x of a product characteristic X brings a loss to consumer in general, where the loss is expressed as a quadratic form with respect to the difference between the measured value x and the target value T of a product characteristic. Then, it is natural to reject the lot which may bring a large loss to consumer. This concept induces us to const… Show more

“…Recently, variables sampling plans attracted the more and more attention of industries. And some variables single sampling plans have been developed by considering numerous process capability indices (PCIs) (see [1][2][3][4][5]). Before using the PCI,many researches usually assumed that the product lifetime was fitted by a specific probability distribution, such as the exponential, the Weibull, the gamma,or the log-normal distributions (see [6][7]).…”

“…Taguchi's loss function can be applied in oþ -line and on-line quality control. Previous researchers (Alexander et al, 1995;Arizono et al, 1997;Derman & Ross, 1997, pp. 178± 192;Elsayed & Chen, 1994;Fink & Margavio, 1994;Kapur & Wang, 1987;Tagaras, 1994) have addressed the problems of quality loss functions applied in the economic design of control charts, speci® cation limits and acceptance sampling.…”
