Variability of UTCI index in South Warsaw depending on atmospheric circulation

Abstract: The aim of the study is the assessment and analysis of the variability of human-bioclimatic conditions in southern part of Warsaw, depending on the atmospheric circulation in the long-term (1998)(1999)(2000)(2001)(2002)(2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015). The Universal Thermal Climate Index UTCI was applied to evaluate the human-bioclimatic conditions using meteorological data for the 12:00 UTC obtained from the WULS Ursynów weather station. In order to determine the … Show more

“…Indeed, the latter depends on other parameters such as humidity, radiation, insolation or wind speed. To evaluate thermal comfort, several indices were proposed, such as the thermohygrometric index [97], the heat index [32,98], and the Universal Thermal Climate Index [99,100]. These quantitative indices can be combined with more qualitative approaches, such as commented paths [22,23].…”

“…These results are lower than the UTCI values for other areas of Poland due to the submontane character of Kłodzko. For comparison, Rozbicka and Rozbicki (2018) obtained for Warsaw around 3.5 to 9.3 • C in 1998• C in -2015• C in , and Ma ¸kosza (2013 for Lubuskie Voivodeship gave a range of UTCI fluctuations from 6.1 • C (for Zielona Góra and Gorzów Wielkopolski) to 8.1 • C in Słubice. In the years 1991-2000, Błażejczyk and Kunert (2011) showed the lowest for Warsaw value with a UTCI indicator of 4.1 • C. Similar absolute minimum values of UTCI were obtained by Ma ¸kosza (2013) and Błażejczyk et al (2014).…”

“…Idzikowska (2011) compared the bioclimatic situation in Warsaw with three other European capitals (Paris, Rome and Budapest). Against this background, research into the relationship between bioclimatic conditions and atmospheric circulation is still scarce in Poland (Bryś and Ojrzyńska 2016;Rozbicka and Rozbicki 2018).…”

“…From 1970 to 2008 however, the immediate vicinity of the station was substantially changed as a result of the extension of the WULS-SGGW campus and the development of the Ursynów residential district. It infl uenced the thermal, bioclimatic and aerosanitary conditions of the air, which were the subject of research (Majewski, Przewoźniczuk & Kleniewska, 2014;Rozbicka, Majewski & Rozbicki, 2014;Rozbicka & Michalak, 2015;Rozbicki, Kleniewska, Majewski, Rozbicka & Gołaszewski, 2016;Rozbicka & Rozbicki, 2016b, 2018.…”
