Variability in Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV Subtest Performance Across Age

Abstract: Normal Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)-IV performance relative to average normative scores alone can be an oversimplification as this fails to recognize disparate subtest heterogeneity that occurs with increasing age. The purpose of the present study is to characterize the patterns of raw score change and associated variability on WAIS-IV subtests across age groupings. Raw WAIS-IV subtest means and standard deviations for each age group were tabulated from the WAIS-IV normative manual along with the c… Show more

“…Psychomotor performance of the sample relative to normative standards is provided in Table 2. Average scores for the patients with MDD were at least 1 standard deviation below normative standards on the FTT, DSST and Trails A (Wisdom et al, 2012; Yeudall et al, 1987) and approximately 0.5 standard deviations below the normative mean on the CANTAB tasks.…”

“…There is significant heterogeneity among older adults in the rate of decline in some abilities, such as measures of perceptual reasoning and processing speed. 11 We will provide a current, brief overview of the neuropsychology of normal cognitive aging. Interested readers are directed to other sources for a more comprehensive review of this topic.…”
