The efficiency of family farmers irrigation is conditioned by several factors such as good quality water supply. In this context, it was to evaluate the salinity and physical, chemical, and bacteriological characteristics of water harvested from roofs for irrigation of crops by family farmers in Brazil. The experiment was conducted at the Federal Institute Goiano, in Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil. The rainwater collected on the roofs was sent through vertical and horizontal conductors to the storage tank, which has a capacity of 5000 L. The risk of salinity, pH, turbidity, conductivity, color, total dissolved solids and thermotolerant coliforms during 13 precipitation events was analyzed. Rainwater was classified as water with no salinity problem (EC < 0.7). The variation of the electrical conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) were similar during the collection period, with mean values of 0.05 dS m-1 and 29.72 mg L-1 for EC and TDS, respectively. The pH of the rainwater presented little variation, presenting a mean of 7.37. The mean value of the color of rainwater was 11.45 PtCo L-1, while the turbidity averaged 4.89 UT. During the period of rainwater harvesting, it was observed absence of thermotolerant coliforms in all samples. It is concluded that rainwater does not present restrictions on the risk of salinity and that all physical-chemical and bacteriological parameters analyzed are within the limits allowed by Resolution 357/2005 of CONAMA, indicating the propensity of this type of water for irrigation.

Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is an alternative to the problem of water scarcity. However, its quality must be analyzed before its use, so that it does not represent any danger to the consumer. Thus, the objective of this paper was to analyze the spatial-temporal variation of water quality of rainwater in two cities and observe whether its parameters meet the norm related to the subject. In addition, the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) that flow into the drainage system was also simulated. Rainwater samples were collected at several points in Congonhas and Ouro Branco - MG, over a period of two years. The results showed that there was spatial-temporal variation in water quality. There were points where the quality met the standard in some moments and did not meet in others, due to its temporal variation. It was also observed that the catchment surface influenced the quality of rainwater, so that the water that came into contact with the roof had its quality deteriorated, at first. However, throughout the rainy event, the quality improved, but at certain times, it was not enough to meet the standard. The rainwater quality simulation, carried out at SWMM, showed high concentrations of TSS, which were higher to that allowed for launching into receiving bodies.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal analisar a qualidade da água da chuva a partir da concentração de poluentes depositados em amostras de volumes iniciais precipitados e de volumes armazenados em dois sistemas de águas pluviais, de características distintas, situados na cidade do Rio de Janeiro-RJ, Brasil. A metodologia consistiu em analisar os parâmetros: turbidez, sólidos totais dissolvidos (STD), cloreto e alcalinidade em amostras mensais coletadas nos anos de 2017, 2018 e 2019, e em apresentar as curvas de massa de poluentes em função das vazões afluentes e do cálculo da concentração média desses poluentes dos eventos analisados. As curvas elaboradas para os parâmetros turbidez e cloreto mostram a carga total de poluentes e, também, a variação da qualidade da água de chuva em decorrência da lavagem produzida pelos volumes iniciais precipitados. Os valores médios obtidos em relação à turbidez foram: no CAP1: 34,97 UNT no ponto (FF) e 0,65 UNT no ponto (RR); no CAP2: 20,43 UNT no (FF) e 0,92 UNT no (RR). A partir desses resultados, o trabalho conclui que a intensidade da chuva e o tipo do material de captação das águas pluviais influenciam na remoção de poluentes depositados na superfície do telhado e que a qualidade de amostras coletadas em sistemas de águas pluviais melhora significativamente com a utilização de filtros de retenção de sedimentos e do descarte dos volumes iniciais precipitados.
