Abstract

DEPTH OPTICAL VARIABILITY OF ATMOSPHERIC AEROSOLS ON THE BRAZILIAN PANTANALABSTRACT: Study of the optical properties of atmospheric aerosols assist in the understanding of the direct and indirect effects of aerosol particles in the Earth-atmosphere system energy fluxes. In this sense, this work aimed to analyze the spatial and temporal variability of the AOD 550 nm on the Brazilian Pantanal using remote sensing products. The maximum AOD 550 nm occurred in the dry seasons and the minimum in the wet seasons. For the dry season 2010, AOD 550 nm reached 3.6 and the average for the whole period was 0.62 ± 0.77. The high temporal variability for AOD 550 nm in the dry seasons has explained as result of outbreaks of fire records in Brazil. Analysis of the spatial distribution found that there were virtually no changes in AOD 550 nm for the wet seasons. However, in the dry seasons the AOD 550 nm values are higher on the north and Midwest of Brazil's Pantanal. It was founds that the variability of the AOD 550 nm is directly related to its temporal variability and the movement of air masses on the Brazilian Pantanal.
