Vapor Pressure of Thiodiglycol

Abstract: Thiodiglycol (TDG), also known as bis(2-hydroxyethyl) sulfide and thiodiethanol, is a precursor of the blister agent sulfur mustard (bis(2-chloroethyl) sulfide). It is also a hydrolytic degradation product, and as such, it is of considerable forensic interest to the chemical defense community. Experimental vapor pressure data have been reported previously for TDG at T = (283.15 to 353.15) K, in addition to reduced-pressure boiling points at T = (353.15 to 454.65) K. New data have been measured using two comple… Show more

“…Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) has been used to determine the vapour pressure of diverse compounds, for instance, alkyl phosphonates [ 19 ], ethyl esters [ 20 ], 2-dialkyl aminoethanethiols [ 21 ], fatty acids [ 22 ] and precursors of chemical warfare agents [ 23 ]. In DSC, the isothermal boiling temperature of a pure compound is measured as a function of pressure.…”

“…The American Society for Testing and Materials International Method ASTM E1782-14 [ 25 ] describes the use of DSC with pinhole-pans with a lower pressure limit of 0.2 kPa. This technique has been successfully used in vapour pressure measurements for a range of compounds at high temperatures [ 19 23 ].…”

“…First, when choosing the objective function φ, the best estimation of the model parameters φ D and the best possible prediction in a given region φ I produce different optimal designs, and a compromise solution for both criteria is desired. Second, as the variance structure of the response is an open question [10], the large differences between the efficiencies of optimal designs under one of the assumptions if the response variance structure is misguided makes the use of combined or multiple approaches to address this uncertainty interesting.…”

“…A normal homoscedastic response corresponds with a constant absolute error. However, in [10], it is suggested that the response is indeed normal, but the relative error is, in fact, constant. This is equivalent to considering a particular normal heteroscedastic variance of the response.…”
