“…A number of different types of initiators have been used, for example, benzoyl peroxide (BPO), 10 -12 azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN), 13 benzoyldimethylketal (Irgacure 651), 14 benzophenone (BP), 11,12 biacetyl, 15,16 anthraquinone (AQ), 10 -12 thioxanthone (TX), 17 and xanthone (XAN), 18 as seen in literature. On the other hand, photografting polymerization also was conducted successfully without initiators.…”

“…[22][23][24][25][26] They performed photografting on polyolefin films in a small reactor [24] or a Pyrex glass tube [22,23] at 60 8C. Sensitizers were coated in advance by dipping the films in acetone solution containing known quantities of sensitizer and dried to prepare sensitizer-coated films or the film was placed in a reactor together with a separate container of monomer/sensitizer solution.…”

“…Although the grafting of MAH onto PP with a thermal initiator has been studied extensively, very little information exists regarding the MAH photografting process with BP as the initiator in the polymer melt or bulk solution. Previous studies of the surface photografting of MAH onto PP films or powder have generally suggested that the grafting process also follows the mechanism shown in Scheme 5, 10, 25. However, because of probable differences in the diffusion rates of the reactive species to the sites of initiation, it is reasonable to expect that bulk grafting in either the solution or melt state will be significantly different than that observed with surface grafting.…”

“…The use of photoinitiators such as benzophenone (BP) has been shown to effectively initiate or coinitiate radical‐induced grafting in a variety of polymer modification procedures 5, 10, 24–26. For example, BP has been used in grafting acrylates onto polyolefins to introduce polar characteristics into the polymers 1–4, 9, 26, 27.…”
