Vapor-Phase Loading of an Ionic Liquid into a Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework

Abstract: Composites formed by a metal–organic framework (MOF) and an ionic liquid (IL) are potentially interesting materials for applications ranging from gas separation to electrochemical devices. Consequently, there is a need for robust and low-cost preparation procedures that are compatible with the desired applications. We herein report a solvent-free, one-step, and vapor-based ship-in-bottle synthesis of the IL@MOF composite 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide@ZIF-8 in powder and thin film forms. In this approach,… Show more

“…In recent years, ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely used in preparation of inorganic materials, , nanomaterials, , perovskites, and metal organic frameworks due to their good solubility, good thermal stability, and high viscosity. , ILs are potential candidates to be incorporated of metal clusters, which can either serve as internal templates to be encapsulated within the metal clusters or exist as large counter anions for metal clusters. A few studies on ILs-assisted synthesis of Au and Ag clusters are known to date, and ILs are used as binders or surface modifiers. However, the advantages of ILs as anion templates and anion ligands in controllable synthesis of metal clusters, especially in Cu(I)H clusters, have not been fully addressed.…”
