Vanillin conversion by aldol condensation using hydrotalcite Mg-Al and modified-Y zeolite as heterogeneous catalysts

Abstract: Mg-Alhydrotalcite, MgO-Al2O3 mixed oxides and modified-Y zeolite (sulfated Y zeolite and copper ion-exchanged Y zeolite) were prepared and characterized by XRD, EDX and XRF techniques. These materials were used as heterogeneous catalysts in aldol condensation of vanillin and acetone. The obtained results showed that the heterogeneous acid catalysts as modified-Y zeolites were more effective than the heterogeneous base catalysts as hydrotalcite Mg-Al and MgO-Al2O3 mixed oxides in aldol condensation reaction of v… Show more

“…In addition, transition metals also have certain redox characteristics, which can adjust the physicochemical properties of Y zeolits by introducing them into the structure of zeolites [9] . In the process of heteroatom modification, heteroatom isomorphic substitution of Si and Al in the framework of Y zeolite can be used by immersion modification method, ion exchange modification method and in‐situ modification method to generate heteroatom Y zeolite [10] . The introduction of impurities can not only modify the physicochemical properties of Y zeolite, but also modify the pore channels of Y zeolite and improve its hydrothermal stability [11] .…”
