“…Although staphylococcal bacteremia due to vancomycin‐resistant isolates in allogeneic HSCT recipients has been reported worldwide (22), all S. epidermidis and S. haemolyticus blood isolates tested in the present study were still susceptible to vancomycin even when considering the decreased breakpoint of 2 mg/L (17). Similar to previous susceptibility investigations against S. epidermidis in Austria, we observed in vitro resistance to fosfomycin in >40% of all CNS isolates which was not limited to methicillin‐resistant CNS strains.…”

“…The first VISA in the US was reported in 1997 [47] and the second [42] and third cases were reported in 1999 [67,68] [71] and in a retrospective evaluation from the US Veterans Affairs Medical Centers [45]. Additionally, France [72], Australia [73][74][75], Greece [43], Thailand [76], Singapore [77], Italy [78] and Egypt [79] have in total published > 20 VISA cases since July 1996, illustrating the worldwide existence of this trend.…”
