Abstract:The association between anthracycline (ANT) and left ventricle (LV) dysfunction is well known; however, data regarding its direct effect on cardiac valve function is limited. We aimed to evaluate how ANT therapy affected valvular function in patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Data were prospectively collected as part of the Israel Cardio-Oncology Registry (ICOR). Patients underwent echocardiography exams at baseline (T1), during ANT therapy (T2), and after completion within 3 months (T3) and 6 months (T4).… Show more
“…The correlation between anthracycline‐based chemotherapy agents, including epidoxorubicin, and native valve degeneration has been previously reported 5 . The mechanisms underlying anthracycline‐induced valve dysfunction are not fully understood.…”

“…The correlation between anthracycline ‐based chemotherapy agents, including epidoxorubicin, and native valve degeneration has been previously reported. 5 The mechanisms underlying anthracycline‐induced valve dysfunction are not fully understood. However, it is thought that the direct toxicity of anthracyclines to valvular tissue, oxidative stress, and inflammation contribute to valve degeneration and fibrosis over time.…”
Key Clinical MessageThe case highlights the good survival after radical surgery and chemotherapy of a cardiac sarcoma, and the need for close follow‐up due to possible early postsurgical complications.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
