Valve-sparing aortic root replacement—midterm outcomes and quality of life

Abstract: Background: This study evaluated the midterm outcomes, the valve related events and quality of life of patients treated by valve-sparing aortic root replacement (VSRR). Results: Hospital mortality was 1%. There were 10 late deaths (11%) including 5 cardiac cases. Two patients (2%) required an aortic valve or graft prosthesis reoperation. Aortic valve endocarditis occurred in two patients. Thromboembolic events were reported in three patients. None of the following morbidity has been observed: structural valve … Show more

“…Our patients demonstrated a mortality rate of 2.1% after 1 year, which increased to 6.3% after 2 years. Though, our findings were comparable with previously published data for conventional aortic root surgery: a 2% 1 year mortality rate following conventional Bentall, 20 respectively an 11% Midterm mortality rate for valve‐sparing aortic root replacement reported by Bori Bata et al 21 in 5.3 ± 3 years mean follow‐up.…”

“…1489 mortality rate following conventional Bentall,20 respectively an 11% Midterm mortality rate for valve-sparing aortic root replacement reported by Bori Bata et al21 in 5.3 ± 3 years mean follow-up.The cardiac reoperation rate after 2 years was 4.2% in our patients. These data are similar to those reported by other groups:Coselli et al reported a reoperation rate of 5% in 83 patients who…”

“…Mookhoek et al reported in a systematic review and meta-analysis a 1-year mortality rate of 2.02% following a Bentall procedure, while Bori et al reported a midterm mortality of 11% following a David operation via FS. 19,20 Regarding the reoperation rate, our results were comparable to those known from earlier publications. Sabol et al reported a reoperation rate of 13.4% for Bentall procedures via FS.…”
