Valul mare de pământ. Cercetare arheologică preventivă pe Autostrada 2 Bucureşti – Constanţa, tronsonul Cernavodă – Medgidia, km 159+000–159+150 zona localităţii Făclia, com. Saligny, jud. Constanţa

Abstract

The large earth vallum is a liniar fortified complex, 41km long, crossing Dobrudja from West to East, continuously palallel to the former Carasu Valley, nowadays the Danube -Black Sea Canal. The preventive archaeological research campaigns 2011-2012 on the site of the large earth vallum was occasioned by the construction ofthe a2 motorway. following a briefreview ofthe technical data concerning the Dobrudjan linear fortifications, especially the large earth vallum, as results of the field observations and investigations (trajectories, constituent and constructive elements -earth batters, ditches, forts and castles, dimensions, spatia! and temporal relations), the present paper focuses on the new observations about the structure of this earthwork. the total width of the fortification ( consisting of northem ditch, mound, southem ditch) was thus about 30-36 meters; the large earth vallum comprises two ditches: the northem one, 4-6.70 meters wide and 3-3.60 meters deep, the southem one, 3.60-6.50 meters wide and 2-3.90 meters deep, flanking a mound about 2-2.90 meters high, set back some 8-10.40 meters from the northem ditch edges. the mound was built using material dug from both contemporary ditches. considering the data recorded and the analysis of the archaeological finds (pottery and a weapon), the proposals for the dating the fortification indicate the 9 1 h -I 0 1 h centuries, allowing to restrain the interval to the 9 1 h century.KEYWORDS: Dobrudjan linear fortifications, valla, the large earth vallum, mound, ditch CUVINTE CHEIE: fortificaţii liniare dobrogene, valuri, valul mare de pământ, rambleu, şanţ INTRODUCEREFortificaţiile liniare care brăzdează centrul Dobrogei, între localităţile Cernavodă şi Constanţa, la sud de Canalul Dunăre -Marea Neagră, cunoscute sub numele de valul mic de pământ, valul mare de pământ şi valul de piatră (PI. 1/1 ), au fost considerate un sistem, unitar sau compus din elemente succesive în timp şi independente unul faţă de celălalt, a cărui cronologie şi atribuire politico-militară a constituit şi constituie încă sursa multor controverse ştiinţifice.Construirea autostrăzii 2 Bucureşti-Constanţa, în special a tronsonului Cernavodă -Medgidia, a afectat traseul acestor fortificaţii liniare pe un segment de circa I 00 m pentru fiecare dintre ele 1 (PI. 1/2) 2 , permiţând totodată cercetarea acestor monumente. Obiectivul arheologic prezentat în contribuţia de faţă reprezintă un segment din fortificaţia liniară valul mare de pământ, situat la sud-vest de localitatea Făclia 3 şi la vest de punctul Gura 1 Valul mic de pământ a fost cercetat pe traseul Autostrăzii Bucureşti-Constanţa atât pe tronsonul cuprins între Cernavodă şi Medgidia, km I 69+800-171 +OOO, în zona localităţii Peştera, în anul 20 I O (Ioniţă, Măgureanu 2011, 211 ), cât şi pe tronsonul cuprins între Medgidia şi Constanţa, km I 97+800-197+960, în extravilanul localităţii Valu lui Traian, în anul 2011 (Cliante el a/ii 2012, 294).
