Value of ultrasound-guided transforaminal nerve block in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation

Abstract: Objective This study was performed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of ultrasound-guided transforaminal nerve block in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. Methods Sixty patients who underwent treatment for protrusion of a lumbar intervertebral disc in Wangjing Hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were divided into the study group and the control group. The visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores, the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores of the lumbar vertebra, PRI (pain rating ind… Show more

“…The sonographically guided pararadicular injections are feasible and effective in treating lumbar unilateral radicular pain. Guang-Hui et al [ 10 ] investigated the efficacy of US-guided transforaminal nerve blocks in 60 patients with lumbar radicular pain. They found significant improvement in pain and function from baseline data to data obtained throughout the 3 months of the follow-up period.…”

“…Disc herniation is widely known as the leading cause of lumbar and leg pain restraining one's mobility and, far worse, unable to care for themselves and perform the routine activities of daily living. [1] Moreover, lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and lumbar central spinal stenosis (LCSS) are two main factors responsible for lower back pain in older people, where LCSS can also be due to LDH. [2,3] Most LDH develop on the L4-5 or L5-S1 levels.…”
