Value of the SYNTAX Score for Risk Assessment in the All-Comers Population of the Randomized Multicenter LEADERS (Limus Eluted from A Durable versus ERodable Stent coating) Trial

Abstract: The SXscore, when applied to an all-comers patient population treated with drug-eluting stents, may allow prospective risk stratification of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. (LEADERS Trial Limus Eluted From A Durable Versus ERodable Stent Coating; NCT00389220).

“…Higher mortality rates (low = 1.5%; intermediate = 2.1%; and high = 5.6%; P = 0.002) and higher rates of target-vessel revascularisation were also observed (low = 6.3%; intermediate = 7.8%; and high = 11.3%; P = 0.001). 10 The similarity of the mid-range SYNTAX score of that study with the present analysis is emphasised.…”

“…Firstly, it may explain why patients with higher DTS have increased MACE because patients with higher risk DTS have increased SxScore, which has a prognostic value. Secondly, since there was a signi cant positive association between SxScore and periprocedural myocardial necrosis (PPI) during percutaneous coronary intervention, which is associated with worse outcomes including death (10)(11)(12), it may help clinicians with risk stratifying of their patients, before the patients undergo coronary angiography, and to take necessary measures in order to avoid such complications. Our study has important limitations.…”

“…Originally conceived as a scoring system for angiographic extent and complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) 1 , the SYNTAX score (SS) has been correlated with the risk of adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients receiving early-and new-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) [2][3][4] .…”
