Value of digital information networks: a holonic framework

Abstract: The worldwide extraordinary level of interest in digital information networks' deployment among nations is due to the strong perception that they bring economic, social and environmental value. Our literature review on studies aiming at clarifying the value of information networks, led us to conclude that these studies take speculative, elusive or limited conclusions. We identify the requirements to capture the value of information networks and indicate a possible theoretical ground to account for it. Based up… Show more

“…Define the key stakeholders Select key stakeholders, and select individual agents to be engaged in the value case. The primary actor and its environment constitute a complex network; we prefer to denote it as a (complex) holarchy (Baken et al, 2010;Madureira et al, 2011) 1 . Most relationships between the actors are multi-fold, and comprise measurable, semi-measurable, ambiguous and immeasurable indicators, and these relationships go across different hierarchical and horizontal units.…”

Most relationships between the actors are multifold, and comprise measurable, semi-measurable, ambiguous and immeasurable indicators, and these relationships go across different hierarchical and horizontal units For any complex network, it is obvious that three scenarios are possible: (a) The network evolves negatively and collapses (b) The network does not evolve and becomes stagnant (c) The network evolves positively and flourishes By using a multi-stakeholder approach, the value case approach is intended to support a flourishing network relevant for the development of generative health management.…”

“…Another internet-based distinction is given by the exchange of digital goods as part of business transactions (Madureira, Baken, & Bouwman, 2011;Mahadevan, 2000;Timmers, 1999). Exchange is mainly conducted over digital networks.…”
