Validity of EQ-5D-5L in stroke

Abstract: PurposeTo assess EQ-5D-5L (5L) validity in patients with acute stroke, in comparison with EQ-5D-3L (3L).MethodsCross-sectional study of 408 patients during index hospitalization. We compared 5L and 3L in terms of feasibility, frequency of unique health states, ceiling effect and discriminatory power (informativity). We assessed construct validity in terms of known-groups validity and convergent validity of 5L dimensions with other stroke outcome measures.ResultsThe overall proportion of patients with acute str… Show more

“…We also currently do not know how different mRS categories are with respect to QoL in the long run. The EQ5D-3L is a 15-item self-reported simple, generic measure of health-related QoL with well-established psychometric properties in the European and US populations and is a frequently used general health status questionnaire in stroke patients [5,6,7]. The goal of this analysis of the Interventional Management of Stroke 3 (IMS3) trial was to compare outcomes at 3 months after stroke using the Barthel index (BI) and health-related QoL (EQ5D-3L summary index), across the mRS 0-5 categories.…”

“…Within the UK, the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D) is the most commonly used preference-based measure [3], and the one recommended by NICE for HTA submissions [4]. Since 2011, a five-level version of the EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L) has replaced the previous three-level version (EQ-5D-3L) [5], and emerging evidence indicates improved psychometric performance [6][7][8][9].…”

“…Despite the positive emerging evidence for the psychometric properties of the ICECAP-A [32][33][34][35] and EQ-5D-5L [6][7][8][9], no evidence is yet available for the context of opiate dependence. Even though some supporting evidence for the EQ-5D-3L and other similar health-focused measures exists for this context [36][37][38][39], such measures are used with caution in economic evaluations [40,41].…”
