“…The Yamax Digiwalker SW series (Yamasa, Tokyo, Japan) are the most accurate of pedometers (Bassett et al, 1996;Crouter et al, 2003;Schneider et al, 2003) and, specifically, the Yamax SW-200 is a reliable monitor to use with children (Kilanowski et al, 1999;Barfield et al, 2004). Participants were encouraged to engage in everyday activities as normal and instructed not to tamper with the pedometer throughout the 3-day monitoring period.…”

“…This brand of pedometer has been shown to accurately detect steps taken in both laboratory [13][14][15][16] and free-living conditions. 17 Participants were instructed to wear the pedometer throughout waking hours for a period of 4 weeks, only removing the pedometer when either bathing, showering or swimming.…”

“…Finally, the use of pedometers-determined step counts to validate HAPI-PA limits the study finding to pedometer-determined steps. However, the accumulating evidence indicates that pedometers provide reliable and valid measurement of physical activity 26,27,31,32 and are strongly correlated with accelerometers. 31 …”

“…Pedometer-determined physical activity was measured using the Walk4Life MVPa pedometer, following established protocol in afterschool programs 18,24,25 . The Walk4Life pedometer has acceptable reliability and validity in children 26,27 . Pedometerdetermined step-counts data were collected over 4 consecutive days, Monday to Thursday, with each child having an opportunity to wear a pedometer for a total of 4 days.…”
