Validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Quality of Recovery-15 questionnaire

Abstract: Background: The qulity of recovery-40 questionnaire (QoR-40) has been widely used to assess quality of recovery after surgery, but it is too lengthy for clinical use. The short form of QoR-40, QoR-15, has been validated in many languages; however, an official Korean version of the QoR-15 (QoR-15K) has not yet been established. This study aimed to develop and validate QoR-15K.Methods: Based on the previously-validated Korean QoR-40, we selected 15 items; the QoR-15K was patterned on the original QoR-15. We an… Show more

“…The QoR-15I also proved to be a reliable instrument for assessing quality of recovery, with good internal consistency as measured by a Cronbach's α of 0.85 and ω t of 0.84 (Cohen, 1988;Reise et al, 2013). Consistent with previous studies (Stark et al, 2013;Kleif et al, 2015;Lyckner et al, 2018;Lee et al, 2021), ceiling and floor effects were not observed with the QoR-15I, allowing good discrimination of patients with different levels of recovery. The successful completion rate (92%) suggests good feasibility.…”

“…In this case, the results also supported the essential unidimensionality of the QoR-15. The QoR-15 has already been translated and validated in several languages (Kleif et al, 2015;Sá et al, 2015;Bu et al, 2016;Lyckner et al, 2018;Demumieux et al, 2020;Lee et al, 2021), but the Italian translation and validation was not yet available at the time we designed the study.…”

“…Although various QoR scales have been developed, the 9-item QoR score, 15-item QoR-15 scale, and the 40- item QoR-40 scale are the most extensively studied scores. [ 12 ]…”

“…The reliability of QoR-15 is comparable with the QoR-40 scale but is responsive more to change. [ 12 ] Hence, both the scales are recommended as outcome measures in research based on patient comfort postoperatively. Nevertheless, in a study published in a past issue of the IJA, the authors have compared the effect of erector spinae block and pectoralis block on QoR using the QoR-40 scale and concluded that the global QoR-40 at 24 h shows a significantly better outcome via providing an efficacious analgesia regimen.…”

“…This culminates in a routine practice of post-anesthesia care unit patient transfer protocol or guidelines in facilitating an acceptably short duration of PACU stay time, in relation to patient fitness for transfer to the respective ward, which is conventionally practiced as a subjective evaluation of discharge fitness and safe hemodynamic measurements by nurses. 2,4,5 The post-anesthesia care standards usually stress the role of anesthetists, or anesthesiologists; but the role of nurses in patient care at post-anesthesia care unit needs to focus on the provision of post-anesthetic nursing care. Therefore, promoting nursing care on the scientific grounds of practice is a framework for proper and better care delivery.…”
