Validity and Reliability of the Polish Adaptation of the CHAMPS Physical Activity Questionnaire

Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate the reliability and construct validity of the Polish adaptation of the Community Health Activities Model Program for Seniors (CHAMPS) physical activity questionnaire among the elderly. The sample included 104 volunteers, 75 women (age = 71.0 ± 5.0 years) and 29 men (age = 75.1 ± 6.6 years). To assess the reliability of the Polish version of the CHAMPS physical activity questionnaire, measurements were conducted by one-week test-retest. The construct validity of the CHAMP… Show more

“…This study is in line with the related studies that the CHAMPS-Q has excellent test-retest reliability, especially in the dimension of weekly frequency. 18 , 19 However, the ICC values revealed in this study were entirely higher when comparing to other related studies examining the reliability of CHAMPS-Q in different samples. 18 This could be due to the clear instructions made before the test and the repeated cueing during the test process, 2 and such an effect could be more evident in inactive or sedentary older adults.…”

According to the feedback from the pre-test, all the possible queries about the Chinese CHAMPS-Q were marked down and explained to the participants before the formal test.…”

“…The CHAMPS-PL [14,16] assessed caloric expenditure (kilocalories per week) and frequency (per week) for all activities (any metabolic equivalent (MET) value) and at least moderate-intensity activities (MET value ≥3.0). When completing the CHAMPS-PL physical activity questionnaire, respondents had to recall the type and frequency of physical activities undertaken during one typical week in the past four weeks.…”

“…In view of the above arguments and to fill the gap in the absence of relevant studies, we implemented a project where the aim was to adapt three questionnaires of physical activity for older adults to the Polish conditions: the Community Healthy Activities Model Program for Seniors (CHAMPS) [14], the Yale Physical Activity Survey (YPAS) [15], and the Physical Activity Questionnaire for the Elderly (PAQE) [6]. Results of research on the Polish adaptation of CHAMPS-PL [16] and the YPAS-PL [17] have been published. This article presents the process of the Polish adaptation of the PAQE.…”
