Validity and Reliability of the Brazilian Version of the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Long Version (SAS-LV)

Abstract: This study performed a cross-cultural adaptation and identified validity evidences of the smartphone addiction scale-long version (SAS-LV) in a sample of Brazilian university students (n = 504; M age = 21.7; SD = 3.03) and adults (n = 578; M age = 37.8; SD = 11.8). The adaptation of the SAS-LV was performed based on specific protocols, with the participation of experts in the field. The factorial structure was evaluated by using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), principal component analysis (PCA), and networ… Show more

“…While acknowledging that the STDS has been validated as a multidimensional scale and using its 3-factor structure when evaluating factorial structure and convergent validity, in order to facilitate comparisons to previous studies Hayashi & Washio, 2020;Hayashi et al, 2019) we opted to explore the distribution of the sociodemographic variables among different levels of PTM based on the tertiles of participants STDS final score: (i) lower tertile; (ii) middle tertile; and (iii) upper tertile. This procedure is in line with previous studies (Andrade et al, 2020) and demonstrated the most prominent effect size between groups, indicating a robust difference in selfperception of PTM (F (2) = 3,570.49, η 2 = 0.813).…”

“…This technique was chosen because it allows a betterfitted model that does not consider low magnitude correlations in the graph. According to an algorithm that took into account the frequency and magnitude of the associations of the STDS items, the nodes were positioned in the system in line with previous studies (Andrade et al, 2020(Andrade et al, , 2021de Oliveira Pinheiro et al, 2020).…”

“…Logistic regression models were used to assess the influence of gender, Internet and smartphone use, Internet risk behavior, and parental mediation using the DASS-21 instrument as the outcome of severity level (Bedendo et al, 2019;Bedendo et al, 2017;Bedendo et al, 2015;Bedendo et al, 2013). The network analysis was generated from Gaussian graphs based on previous studies (Andrade et al, 2020a;Andrade et al, 2020c;Prehuls et al, 2021).…”

“…The validity of the SAS-SV scale has also been consistently demonstrated. Specifically, it correlates strongly with the smartphone addiction proneness scale (SAPS) and the internet addiction test (IAT) [ 25 , 27 , 28 ]. It has also been linked with current smoking, weekly to daily alcohol drinking, and physical inactivity among young adults [ 29 ].…”
