“…The Pictorial Scale of Perceived Movement Skill Competence for Young Children was shown to have acceptable face validity as well good test-retest reliability (r > 0.78) and internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.60-0.81; . Construct validity has also been established in children aged 4 to 10 years (Barnett et al, 2016;Lopes et al, 2016;Valentini et al, 2017).…”

“…In older children, previous investigations have demonstrated an acceptable face validity of the 12 FMS items of the PMSC in both Australian (Barnett et al ., ) and Portuguese school‐aged children (Lopes et al ., in press). In addition, these studies (Barnett et al .; Lopes et al .) noted that some school‐aged children had difficulty to understand the locomotor skills such as the step and slide and gallop , and demonstrations of these skills were required. Additionally, the hop was not well understood by the Portuguese children (Lopes et al .).…”

In the current study, the step and slide , gallop and hop were not as well recognised as the other nine specific FMS items.…”

“…However, such scales are few when compared to the vast number in written text alone. More recent studies have used pictorial scales where accurate comprehension is compromised by literacy level of the respondents, or the traditional instrument took too long to complete[ 33 - 35 ]. Some of these scales have used only pictures and no text.…”
