Validité et reproductibilité des applications téléphoniques pour évaluer les amplitudes de mouvement en pratique clinique: revue de littérature Résumé Objectifs : Revue de littérature sur les tests de validité et de reproductibilités (intra et interévaluateurs) des applications sur smartphone permettant de mesurer une amplitude de mouvement en degrés. Méthode : Les articles, en anglais et en français, ont été cherchés en utilisant les mots clés : « healthy subjects », « phone », « range of motion », validity », « reliability » et « repeatability » sur les bases de données PubMed / Medline, ScienceDirect, Pedro et Kinedoc. Une synthèse a été réalisée et chaque étude a été évaluée par le score Qarel. Résultats : Au total, 512 études ont été identifiées. Suite aux différentes étapes de sélection, 18 articles ont été recrutés. 5 articles sur le rachis, 6 articles sur le membre inférieur et 7 articles sur le membre supérieur. Au total, 601 sujets asymptomatiques ont été testés. Le score Qarel moyen était de 7.61/12 (min :6/ max :9). Discussion et conclusion : Les applications téléphoniques goniométriques et inclinométriques peuvent être utilisées pour mesurer des amplitudes de mouvement. Néanmoins, ces applications doivent être utilisées avec précaution pour les rotations cervicales et de hanches, pour les mouvements de l'hallux et de l'épaule. Method: The research was conducted, in french and english, using keywords « healthy subjects », « phone », « range of motion », validity », « reliability » et « repeatability » on the databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Pedro and Kinedoc. A synthesis was carried out and each study was evaluated by the Qarel score.Results: 512 articles were identified. Following the selection criteria, 18 articles were included, with 5 for cervical and lumbar motions, 6 for lower limb and 7 for upper limb. These studies included 601 healthy subjects. The mean Qarel score was 7.61/12 (min:6/max:9). Discussion and conclusion:Goniometric and inclinometric smartphone applications can be used to measure range of motion. However, these applications should be used with caution for cervical and hip rotations, for hallux movements and on the shoulder. Objective: Elderly people with dementia experience not only cognitive dysfunction but also motor function deficits, such as balance and gait impairments. Recently, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been used to reduce pain as well as to control muscle spasm, spasticity and motor performance in various types of subjects. The purpose of this study determined the effect of a single trial TENS on balance and gait function in elderly people with dementia. Design: A randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twenty-two subjects with dementia were assigned to the TENS group (n=12) and ten subjects were assigned to the control group (n=10) randomly. Subjects were classified into two groups: the TENS group (n=12) and the placebo-TENS group (n=10). The TENS group had electrical stimulation applied on the calf muscle for 15 minutes, while the placebo-TENS group had not received real electrical stimulation. The timed up and go test (TUG) and functional reach test (FRT) were used to measure the balance function, and the 10 meters walk test (MWT) and 6MWT were used to assess gait ability. All tests were performed before and after intervention under a single-blinded condition. Results: After intervention, there were significant improvements in TUG, FRT, 10MWT, and 6MWT results in the TENS group (p<0.05), while the placebo-TENS group did not show significant changes in all outcome measurements. There were also differences in all tests between the two groups at post-measurements (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that a single trial TENS application on the calf may be used to improve balance and gait function in elderly people with dementia.

Objective: Computers and smartphones have become a necessity for modern people, and the use of these things in an inappropriate position has increased the number of people who complain about neck problems. The purpose of this study was to compare the changes of cervical angle, range of motion (ROM) and pain threshold according to the McKenzie stretching and dry cupping therapy. Design: Cross-over design. Methods: We included 12 male and 6 female college students in their twenties, and conducted a pre-and post-test to evaluate the changes of each variable after the application of the McKenzie stretching and dry cupping therapy. Results: Neither the cervical spine angle nor the turtle neck angle showed any change in both the McKenzie stretching and the dry cupping treatment. In the McKenzie stretching, the pain threshold decreased, and the ROM of the cervical spine increased in all directions but there was no significant difference. The pain threshold was increased in the dry cupping treatment, and the ROM of the cervical spine was significantly increased in all directions (p<0.05). Comparisons of the McKenzie stretching and cupping treatment showed that the cupping treatment produced significantly greater pain thresholds and improvements in ROM of the cervical spine than the McKenzie stretching technique (p<0.05). Conclusions: Cupping treatment is more effective in improving ROM of the cervical spine and pain thresholds than the McKenzie stretching technique. In the future, cupping treatment will be one of the treatment options for pain and ROM impairments of the cervical spine.
