Validation of the Spanish version of the borderline symptom list, short form (BSL-23)

Abstract: BackgroundThe Borderline Symptom List-23 (BSL-23) is a reliable and valid self-report instrument for assessing Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) severity. The psychometric properties of the original version have proven to be adequate. The aim of the present study was to validate the Spanish language version of the BSL-23.MethodsThe BSL-23 was administered to 240 subjects with BPD diagnosis. Factor structure, reliability, test-retest stability, convergent validity, and sensitivity to change were analyzed.Re… Show more

“…In some studies, this variable seems to be able to differentiate not only ideators from attempters but also past attempters from recent attempters (P erez, Marco, & Garc ıa-Alandete, 2017). However, a recent meta-analysis found that hopelessness does not seem to predict attempts longitudinally (Qiu, Klonsky, & Klein, 2017). These findings are similar to those highlighted by other researchers (e.g., May & Klonsky, 2016), which means there is contradictory evidence about this construct in relation to suicide attempts.…”

“…It shows adequate psychometric properties (α = .96). The Spanish adaptation has been found to be reliable and valid, showing high reliability (α = .95) and test–retest reliability (Soler et al., ). In our sample, we found adequate internal consistency for the global scale (α = .96).…”

“…It is a self‐rating instrument composed of 23 items rated on a Likert scale (never = 0, to a lot = 4) for specific assessment of borderline‐typical symptomatology. The Spanish adaptation has been found to be a reliable and valid measure to assess BPD symptomatology, showing high reliability ( α = 0.95) and test–retest reliability (Soler et al ., ). In our sample, we found an adequate internal consistency for the global scale ( α = 0.96).…”

“…In addition to these diagnostic questionnaires, the Borderline Symptom List-23 (BSL-23) (35), a 23-item self-rating instrument used to assess the level of clinical severity in BPD, was also applied to a subsample of the patients. Specifically, we used a validated Spanish version with good psychometric properties (36).…”
