Validation of the questionnaire for impulsive-compulsive disorders in Parkinson’s disease (QUIP) and the QUIP-rating scale in a German speaking sample

Abstract: Impulsive-compulsive disorders are frequent in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Recently, a screening questionnaire and rating scale were developed for these disorders: the questionnaire for impulsive-compulsive disorders (QUIP) and QUIP-rating scale (QUIP-RS). We assessed the validity of these instruments in the German language in order to reevaluate the benefit and to obtain German screening tools in clinical practice. A convenience sample of 156 patients was assessed in Kiel and Vienna. The patients … Show more

“…For the purposes of registration, k was not determined in the original QUIP-RS research, as the inter-rater reliability was not investigated in the German-language QUIP-RS study. 1,7 The total scores of the QUIP-RS Brazil test-retest reliability of the patients and the health professional achieved excellent concordances ICC = 0.93 and ICC = 0.99, respectively, which in turn were higher than test-retest reliability score of the original QUIP-RS (ICC = 0.87). All eight items evaluated (QUIP-RS Brazil) in both test-retest (patients and health care professional), obtained excellent concordances and presented the following range of values: 0.85-0.99; 0.93-1.…”

“…At a movement disorders clinic, a convenience sample of PD patients self‐completed the QUIP‐RS and were administered a semistructured diagnostic interview by a blinded trained rater to assess the discriminant validity for impulse control disorders (n = 104) and related disorders (n = 77). The QUIP‐RS has been used by others …”

“…All questionnaires are filled out at all three measurement points. PD related symptoms of interest are depression , Apathy [Apathy Evaluation Scale -AES (Marin et al, 1991)], Impulsivity [Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in PD -QUIP (Probst et al, 2014)] and Sleeping Problems [Parkinson's Diseases Sleep Scale-2 -PDSS-2 (Trenkwalder et al, 2011)]. Furthermore, to study changes of emotional well-being, experienced stress [Perceived Stress Questionnaire-20 -PSQ-20 (Fliege et al, 2005) (Marin et al, 1991;Michalak et al, 2016)] is also assessed.…”
