“…Items were then summed to create a composite score. The PHQ-9 has demonstrated good internal reliability with α ranging from .77 to .87 (Kocalevent et al, 2013 ; Löwe, Kroenke, Herzog, & Gräfe, 2004 ; Ślusarska et al, 2019 ; Urtasun et al, 2019 ; Villarreal-Zegarra, Copez-Lonzoy, Bernabé-Ortiz, Melendez-Torres, & Bazo-Alvarez, 2019 ). Construct validity has also been demonstrated by comparing the PHQ-9 to scales of quality of life, life satisfaction, emotional well-being, psychological well-being, and mental health (Keum, Miller, & Inkelas, 2018 ; Kocalevent et al, 2013 ); convergent validity has been established by comparing the scale to other measures of depression (Löwe et al, 2004 ; Maroufizadeh, Omani-Samani, Almasi-Hashiani, Amini, & Sepidarkish, 2019 ).…”

“…baseline depressive and anxiety symptoms—assessed with the use of Polish versions of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale ( 78 , 79 ) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale ( 80 , 81 ), respectively; the questionnaires could be validly applied on-line ( 82 ); PHQ-9 and GAD-7 assess mental health symptoms based on nine- and seven-symptom lists, respectively; the participants indicate frequency of experiencing each of the symptoms within previous 2 weeks with a 4-point Likert scale.…”

“…The other collected baseline characteristics included personality traits (assessed with the Polish version of the Big Five Inventory-Short, BFI-S [ 19 , 20 ]), the overall quality of diet (Polish version of the Starting the Conversation scale, STC [ 21 , 22 ]), mode of eating, physical activity (a measure partially validated [ 22 ] against the Polish version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short form [ 23 , 24 ]), and cigarette smoking/use. In the same survey, at baseline, participants were questioned about their depressive symptoms (Polish version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, PHQ-9 scale [ 25 , 26 ]) and anxiety symptoms (Polish version of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, GAD-7 scale [ 27 , 28 ]). PHQ-9 and GAD-7 assess mental health symptoms based on nine- and seven-symptom lists, respectively, and the participants indicate the frequency of experiencing each of the symptoms within the previous two weeks with a four-point Likert scale.…”
