Validation of the HFA-PEFF and the H2FPEF scores for the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in Japanese patients:a report from the Japanese multicentre registry

Abstract: Background The standard diagnosis of heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is based on the following: 1) symptoms of HF, 2) preserved left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (LVEF, >50%), and 3) presence of LV diastolic dysfunction confirmed by echocardiography or cardiac catheterisation. However, there are limits to the diagnostic accuracy of individual parameters, and what cut-off values should be applied and how they should be combined remain unclear. Diagnosti… Show more

“…Nevertheless, for patients with intermediate likelihood of HFpEF, exercise induced echocardiography or invasive cardiac hemodynamic measurements would be recommended for the final diagnosis. 23 Aizpurua et al reported that 36% of subjects with known HFpEF were categorized as HFpEF not excludable according to the HFA-PEFF validation study. 22 In terms of clinical relevance, the use of HFA-PEFF is scarce, and the performance of this score system remains limited in diagnosing HFpEF.…”

“…A full text assessment for eligibility of the remaining 22 articles was performed, and we requested the authors of two studies for research data via email 27,31 ; unfortunately, no reply was received by the accomplishment of this manuscript; finally, five studies with 1521 participants were identified for inclusion in this meta-analysis. [22][23][24][25][26] No additional studies were found through bibliography screening of the included papers.…”
