Objective: Accelerometer-determined physical activity, sedentary behavior, and energy expenditure estimation may be influenced by the accuracy of accelerometer-assessed inclinometer. The purpose of this study is to examine the accuracy of the ActiGraph GT9X (most recent ActiGraph model) inclinometer across participant body habitus, and in particular, differences in central adiposity. Methods: Eighteen participants (M age = 21.5 years) completed a series of 11 consecutive activities that varied in both movement (i.e., no movement, walking, and pedaling) and anatomic position (i.e., lying, sitting, and standing). During the trials, the participants wore an ActiGraph GT9X accelerometer and direct observation is used to compare body position determination derived from the ActiGraph GT9X inclinometer. Results:The ActiGraph GT9X inclinometer demonstrated moderate accuracy (>68%) in body position determination for sedentary behaviors, high accuracy (>95%) in body position determination for ambulatory-based activities (e.g., walking and jogging), and had varied accuracy (100% vs. 32.1%) in identifying non-wear. Conclusion: The exclusive use of inclinometry for sedentary behavior and non-wear determination is not recommended. ARTICLE HISTORY

Objetivo: el presente estudio tiene como objetivo comparar los counts verticales registrados por los actígrafos GT1M, GT3X y ActiTrainer durantediversas actividades físicas estandarizadas y en reposo.Métodos: participaron 31 jóvenes, 31 adultos y 35 adultos mayores, quienes llevaron puesto el acelerómetro en la cadera derecha. Se realizóun análisis de muestras independientes (t-test) para determinar las diferencias entre los counts de cada grupo según edad y actividad físicarealizada (caminar, correr, sentarse y levantarse, reposo). Además, se llevó a cabo el análisis de Bland y Altman para determinar el grado deconcordancia. Con el fi n de determinar el factor de corrección para los recuentos ActiTrainer, se utilizó el análisis de regresión lineal para reduciral mínimo las diferencias con los counts de los actígrafos GT3X y GT1M.Resultados: las diferencias entre ActiTrainer, GT1M y GT3X se manifestaron en todas las actividades, excepto en reposo. Los counts de ActiTrainerfueron signifi cativamente más bajos que los de GT3X y GT1M. El factor de corrección para ActiTrainer con GT1M (GT1M counts = 3185.564 +649.647; *ActiTrainer counts - 36.163; *peso [kg] - 7,545; *edad [años] r = 0,864; r2 = 0,746; r2 corregido = 0,745; SEE = 1451) y con GT3X(GT3X counts = 3501.977 + 705.662; *ActiTrainer counts - 40.523; *peso [kg] - 11,864; *edad [años] r = 0,901; r2 = 0,812; r2 corregida =0,811; SEE = 310.160).Conclusión: los counts verticales de GT1M y GT3X son comparables, sin embargo, debería aplicarse un factor de corrección para disminuir lasdiferencias de los counts entre ActiTrainer y los actígrafos GT1M y GT3X.

Objective. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) may cause functional impairment and reduced time engaged in physical activity. The aim of this study was to investigate the habits of patients with JIA regarding participation in club sports, leisuretime physical activity, and school-educational physical activity and relate this to objectively measured physical activity using accelerometry and to compare the findings with those in healthy controls.Methods. Consecutive patients from the Aarhus University Hospital outpatient clinic were included. Clinical characteristics, functional ability, and exploration of specific habits in club sports, leisure-time physical activity, and school-educational physical activity (based on a standardized questionnaire) in patients were recorded and compared with those in healthy controls. The intensity and frequency of physical activity were measured by accelerometer monitoring, using ActiGraph GT1M.Results. Sixty-eight patients with JIA and 118 healthy control subjects were included. Despite having low disease activity, children with JIA had significantly lower accelerometry-monitored physical activity levels compared with healthy controls. The distribution of specific club sport activities was the same among patients and controls. However, the proportion of patients spending >3 hours/week participating in club sports was significantly lower than the proportion of controls, whereas no difference in time spent engaging in physical activity during leisure-time was observed. Participation in compulsory school-educational physical activity was equally high in patients and controls, although participation by patients was significantly less consistent than that by controls. Patient reports of time spent with club sport and leisure-time physical activity was significantly related to accelerometry measures, whereas this was not observed for school-educational physical activity.Conclusion. The results of this study indicate the need for structured guidance for all patients with JIA (including those with minimal disease activity) in both understanding and coping with the consequences of a low level of physical activity.
